Senior Travelers
The biggest concern for senior travelers is altitude sickness, a difficult and unpredictable problem which can get worse and more severe with age. Even without altitude sickness, the high altitudes mean less oxygen and hence even slight exertion can cause breathing problems.
In general, Tibetans are very respectful to older people and thus you can expect deferential treatment.
To qualify for senior-citizen discounts, mention your senior-citizen status up front when booking hotel reservations and before you’re seated in a restaurant. In rural areas, don't expect such discounts! If renting a car, ask about promotional discounts because they are sometimes cheaper then senior-citizen rates.
