JOB: Tibetan Humanities Computing

UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA, Department of Religious Studies, announces an opening in Tibetan Humanities Computing. We are seeking someone with a strong commitment to both Humanities Computing and Tibetan Studies, with additional expertise in cultural geography and Asian languages (Tibetan, Chinese) viewed favorably. The person will be project manager in the Tibetan and Himalayan Digital Library with a special responsibility for place-based research projects and multimedia collections. This will involve technical work in humanities computing (GIS, Flash, XML, image management, audio-video management), but also require extensive engagement with scholars and scholarly work, and may involve opportunities for field work and training in Asia. Technical and linguistic training can be done post-arrival, so that we encourage all interested applicants regardless of gaps in background.

The position will carry the title of Research Assistant or Research Associate, depending upon the degree held, MA required for Research Assistant, PhD required for Research Associate. A bachelor's degree and significant relevant experience may be considered in lieu of the MA. Salary range is low to mid $30s plus benefits.
