Description: This clinical study attempted to determine the effectiveness of an intensive dietary intervention program on body mass in women with breast cancer. A group-based, dietician lead 15-session nutrition education program (NEP) was compared to a mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) and usual supportive care program (UC). Women in the NEP group showed a large reduction in fat consumption over a 4-month and 1 year period. Women in the NEP group also showed a reduction in body mass while women in the MBSR and UC programs showed no reduction. The results indicate that clinical use group based dietary interventions appears to be warranted. (Zach Rowinski 2005-03-03)
