How to Upload Transcriptions to Corresponding Titles in Mediabase
Contributor(s): Bradley Aaron
Introduction
When a transcript of an Audio-Video title has been made, and that title has been uploaded to Mediabase, it is necessary to attach the transcription to the media title through Mediabase. In order to connect time coded transcripts to Mediabase titles follow the procedure outlined below.
THL recommends the use of InqScribe as the preferred transcript making application. Directions below are tailored to that application. For more information on using InqScribe to create time-coded transcripts follow this link.
Preparing a Transcript File for Upload
In InqScribe, click File-->Export-->XML
Make sure you check "Export Out Points" and "Export Speaker Names"
Choosing the Title in Mediabase
First, go to Mediabase here and login with your net badge ID.
Then, navigate to the A-V title to which you wish to upload a transcript.
Click the 'Edit' tab above the audio player, which will take you to the catalog entry screen
Click the 'TRANSCRIPT' section and browse for the exported XML transcript file on your computer. Then click 'Upload' to upload the transcript to Mediabase. If you are uploading a transcript prepared in InqScribe, you must select the appropriate xml converter; to do this, in the section called 'Transformer' click 'Reference existing' and type 'In' into the search box, which will result in the popup selection of the inqscribe.xls file. Select that file, then click 'select'. (If you are uploading a transcript prepared in the old way, there is no need to select the transformer.) Then scroll to the bottom of the page and click 'Save'.
After the transcript is uploaded a new tab will appear that says "Transcript". Once the transcript has been fully processed (this can take some time for longer transcripts), you can click on the transcript tab to see the transcript as it relates to the A-V file. Check to make sure the time coding is correct by clicking play and watching to make sure the interactive transcript highlights the transcript text in the correct time with the A-V title. If it does not, follow the procedure below to edit the transcript in-line in Mediabase.
