Contributor(s): Eric Woelfel
The final step in the media creation process is to upload the media file and its associated information to the THL Audio-Video Database. Linking the media to the AVDB allows for delivery of the video to end users.
NOTE: the following programs are required in order for the current THL AVDB to connect the compressions to the AVDB cataloging records:
- BBEdit
- Fugu (which can be downloaded for free off the ITC Mac software page).
A. Upload media files to server
- Upload the high quality movies by using a ftp client to the www.blue.unix.virginia.edu/net/quandu/thdl.org/video/high folder.
- Upload the low quality movies by using a ftp client to the www.blue.unix.virginia.edu/net/quandu/thdl.org/video/low folder.
- Upload the audio files by using a ftp client to the www.blue.unix.virginia.edu/net/quandu/thdl.org/audio folder.
B. Batch import media
1. Create a text file for the high compressions and upload the data to the AVDB.
- Download the script "Export movie data.scpt. found here http://www.thlib.org/avarch/mediaflowcat/admin/media_import_docs.php

- Select the folder on your local hard drive containing the low quality compressions.
- Choose quality setting "low".
- In BBEdit, save the text file as import-mediaLow.txt.
- Select the Batch import media file option from the home page of the Audio-Video Database. Click on the "Browse" button to navigate to the import-mediaLow.txt on your hard drive then click the "Submit Query" button to upload the data to the Audio-Video Database.
