E pa is one of the original subsidiary houses (mi tshan) of sba ti khang tshan, and this is its main compound. The e pa khang tshan complex was renovated in 1998. Even before this time it served as a home for elderly monks. In 2002 it housed about 50 such monks from different khang tshan-s. Since all of the rooms are filled, a new monk may not enter this nursing home until a previous one has died. Monks must be 65 years of age or older to qualify for admission.
The complex is three stories tall with monks' quarters on three sides (S, E, W) and a temple on the remaining (N) side. The temple is located on the second story. Originally, the kitchen was located beneath the temple on the first story, but this is now storage.
As of 2002 there was only one monk from this khang tshan left at se ra.
